Hydrogen production via Electrochemical(EC), photoelectrochemical(PEC) water splitting has
received much attention for our clean and sustainable society
In our laboratory, various EC and PEC materials such as metal oxides and sulfides are synthesized mainly by atomic layer deposition (ALD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), hydrothermal method and electrodeposition.
Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER), which determines the efficiency of the hydrogen production, is receiving much attention. In order to achieve commercial hydrogen production efficiency, various researches are being carried out such as bandgap tuning of semiconductors, surface area enlargement, heterojunction, exposing catalytic active site and field enhancement.
Heterojunction of Ⅳ, Ⅲ-Ⅴ semiconductors with metal oxides and sulfides is also studied. Surface protection with ALD metal oxides and sulfides for vulnerable materials in harsh electrolyte conditions is one of focused research area in EML.
